Birmingham City Council v Afsar & Others
Paul Diamond was instructed by Mr. Allman in the controversial case of Birmingham City Council v Afsar & Others. This was a case about Muslim parents protesting against the teaching of LGBT issues to primary school children; some as young as 5 years old. It was averred that the manner of the teaching to young children violated their Islamic faith. Mr. Allman was a Christian blogger who wished to criticise such teaching to young children.
The case had two parts; the first was that of the physical protests by the parents outside the School; and the second part was in relation to Internet freedom including the right to comment about the teachers. Mr Allman prevailed in his part of the case to protect Internet freedom of speech.
