Reverend disciplined for quoting Bible in prison chapel service

2nd August 2017

Paul Diamond represents the Rev. Barry Trayhorn. Rev Trayhorn quoted from I Cor 6 during a Chapel service in a prison. Rev. Trayhorn was disciplined as this verse was said to be disparaging of homosexuals (the other sins listed in the verse were not problematic). The case raised important issues on Church autonomy; and the power of the State to limit Church doctrine on their property.

Rev Trayhorn lost in the ET and the EAT; and the Court of Appeal refused leave. The case is now going to the European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg.
